Last year, 1080 children in 14 partner programs benefitted from our services. Our main priority in 2016 was to send children to Thai schools through our scholarship program; this amounted to almost 30% of our budget. The bulk of the rest of our expenditure, 36%, went towards food, health and hygiene. We prioritized nutritional food like rice, eggs and milk for young children. We spent the rest of our funds on supplies, building better fences and boarding houses, enhancing the well-being of the children. Our administrative expenses made up only 3% of total expenses. A recent article in the Guardian talks about Plan International's search for an emoji that has something to say about menstruation. It points out that there are over 1,000 emojis in Unicode, including ones for many bodily functions (smiling poo being a regular favorite), but nothing at all about getting your period, something that is happening to approximately 800 million people around the world, right now. Its easy to dismiss the call, but the lack of an emoji says a lot about the continued silence around menstruation.
