Goodbye 2016, Hello 2017
Looking back on 2016, we are happy to say that we focused on the basics: nutrition (rice, eggs, milk, snack, noodles, fruit), shoes, underwear, hygiene (toothbrushes, toothpaste, sanitary napkins) and education (school fees, school uniforms, transport to school). We also funded the improvement of bathrooms for one of the dormitories we support so that the children can now go to clean bathrooms without having to wait in line for a long time.
We had a volunteer from Canada, who did great work developing child protection material for boarding houses.
In addition, we worked in partnership with Burma Border Projects to develop and fund increased support for children and families in distress, providing support for food, clothing, shelter and transportation to those needing emergency medical, legal and pyschosocial support. With our support, Burma Border Projects also piloted a new youth mentoring program this year, building the skills and confidence of young boarding house children to face and conquer adversity.
In all, we accomplished what we set out to do in 2016: we were able to use our funds more efficiently and effectively by targeting the essentials that provide a foundation for children to thrive. We are grateful to our partners, donors and volunteers for helping us achieve this year’s goals and look forward to a wonderful year in 2017.
